We right in the middle of prime summertime fishing, and what could be better, getting out of the city, gettin some serious fishing done. I always cherish the time with my fishin buddies on the boat, enjoying a cool one, smoking a cigar and soaking in the sun's rays. The feeling of being totally relaxed and content enjoying the outdoors only lasts for the first ten minutes. I realize that when we get together, a fishing derby has sprung, and my competive fishing buddies has set the table for some bragging rights and a little cash. Who catches the most, the biggest, and if your shut out , you pay double! Yes its all fun and games, but somehow we never set a deadline when we actually pull anchor and go back to shore.
I once was out in the dark one evening well after 11pm, as two buddies were deadlocked at 16 apiece. We needed a winner! It finally happened some 20 mintues later, and I look back on it and it was all worth it. There should no such thing as a tie.
Fishing really does bring the best out of us, brings us closer to our friends, our sponses, and its always a special event for our children. Somehow one always remembers later in life when they went fishing with their parents when they were young.
For the rest of summer, enjoy some excellent fishing in Alberta, and as my good friend Brian always says, " take a kid fishing" and create those golden memories.

We spent the week of June 13, 2010 fishing Lesser Slave near Joussard & I'm happy to report that we enjoyed some excellant fishing. The walleye were 'starving' & we averaged 8-10 per hour for most of the week. Even in the 'slow' times we averaged about 5 per hour with 2 of us fishing. Most were small but I did manage to catch a 4-1/2 lb walleye. We are headed back on Sunday for another week so shall update you all then.

Well, June is underway, the weather has been less than cooperative for the fishing angler, but better days are ahead, I sure of it. I started updating the fishing reports trying to pry lake action information from any source to get a accurate acount of the fishing conditions. If you have any reports of kind, please let us know. One of our loyal members send a very good report from Calling Lake, saying all is great out there.

I really enjoyed talking with this fellas. Jim Sammons show The Kayak Fishing Show airs on WFN and is a good watch. When they told me about this tale I had to scribe a short article on it and share it with the community.
One crazy fish story and all caught on video.

Its that time of year again! I know when I put the countdown widget on the front page of the website, the opening day is not far off. It time to pull the fishing gear out, get your boated cleaned and ready for the water. Its is a magical time of year, the calm before before the storm. Its so exciting to vision zipping acros the lake on a bright warm sunny day heading to your favortie fishing spot.
The 25th annual Trouts unlimited dinner is at the Crown Plaze Hotel on May 6th. Check the calendar link for their website. I have attended every year and its a great event. When you get a ballroom with fishing people who really care and chwerish the fishign industry in Alberta. If you never attended, please do, you be great you did.
I am very pleased that we are over 208 members now on the website and 246 members on the fishing forums. We have over 800 members on Facebook. Thanks for all the support.
As a member you can post pictures, video's, and add calendar events. Please post as many pictures as you want, we have a big server, but for best results, make pictures 600 x 400 for faster loading.
As mentioned excited about the upcoming fishing season, looks like its going to be a great summer of fishing. I wish you all well, and all the best in your fishing experiences this summer.

Hello, hope everyone enjoyed a great summer. It isn't over just quite yet, i predict many more sunny days and excellent fishing yet to come. Fishing in the fall when the leaves are turning color is one of my most favorite times. It the frost in the morning and the cool air that takes me awhile to get me going before that sun comes out.
If your like me with a inboard, it is almost time to start lining things out for the annual winterization which usually occurs mid October if the weather holds in the cool morning hours. Over the years I learned to do the entire boat check of tasks to make sure it has it has a nice safe storage over the winter. i beleive we have some video's of these procedures and procautions when caring for your boat. As far as the lucky ones who use smaller boats and outboards you have a bit more time. A heated garage, well good for you.
Fishing Alberta Net is now on Facebook, for those of you that are well facebook friendly. The list of friends has grown to almost 500 in a couple of weeks, ah the power of the internet.
i know alot of our members have alot of pictures to share, so feel free to upload them anytime. You can also add video's or put events on the calendar if you choose.
On a personal note, fishing this year was good, not quite as successful as last year, but was still alot of fun. My goal was to prevent any boating mishaps of any kind, wait there was one now that I think of it, I had a lovely young lady who decided to cut right behind me full speed and cut my trolling line, I was ready for the rod to go airborne, but the line just cut, so it wasn't a big deal.

Hope everyone is having a great summer. I know the last week of rain was a bit much, but the farmers should be happy, and hopefully save the crops. Always look at the positive side of things. It is great to see 101 site members and 180 in the forum. The website is growing and we are coming up to the final draw on July 15 for the Grand Prize of the travel suitcase (rod and reel), its quite nice. The GPS we just gave away to a fellow in Carvel, AB, he should never get lost in Carvel anytime soon.
Still looking for the bragging photo of the summer from a member. Who caught the biggest fish this summer. Our next adventure for the Fishing Alberta Team, is to the rockies for some rainbow trout and whatever else we can find. Have to get the old fly rod shined up and ready for action.

As mentioned, any member who wants to write a article for the blog is welcome to do so.
I could give some fishing tips, but I always shy away from telling someone how to fish, that the fun about it and the challenge it presents, live and learn. Unless your out on a windy lake in the cold without a bite, you tell yourself please tell me what I have to do to get a nibble, anyone?
The good news, the cold windy days should be behind us and the water sports should be in full swing. The prime fishing season is here. I always liked the third week of July. See you next time on the blog where I might have some good stories to tell from the Rocky Mountains.
Enjoy your summer!

Welcome to the first edition of the Fishing Alberta Blog. I thought it was about time we added this application to the mix. My thinking is, I could use this forum to update and inform how to interact with the websiteand fellow members. My other thought was to add an addiitional way for our members both on the website and the forum to express themselves. Any member from either location can write their very own blog and I will post it. I think everyone would like submit some wisdom. The best thing you don't have to write every week. Send it to
fishingalberta.net@gmail.com on a word document. I will copy and paste it. Include your name, photo if you want.

It can be anything from fishing tips, fishing trips, description of your business and services you offer (fishing and camping related). Look forward to some interesting blogs.
As you may of noticed I changed the color scheme of the website, i think its looks much better, a bit dark before. Sone of the features you may not be aware of are:
Website members can upload pictures, video's and put events on the calendar right from your own computer. Don't worry i have lots of space for your 200 pictures. You can also interact with fellow members by sending them messages, commenting on their member photo's etc..
The kids section is a great place for the younger ones to explore the world of fiishing, lots of stuff for them to do, you might even like to try some of the quizzes yourself.
I going to add another application to the website, a e- store featuring mostly fishing books and some electronic fishing gear like GPS and fishfinders etc. Look for it in a couple of days on the nav bar, should be some great books to read.
You may of noticed advertising banners on the website. We place them hoping you as the member or guest will click on them and shop there on their own secure sites. The reason we do this is to fund the website by commision we earn. We use this money to buy our fishin gear for our contests every summer. We do this website for the love of fishing but its sure nice to give free stuff away every summer. Be sure to check the list to see if you won.

We right in the heart of fishing season and I'm sure most of you are out trying your luck at the various lakes. We still need some of that hot weather to get those wakeboards out. Looking forward to it, can't beleive Canada Day is here already. Cheers ! Good fishing to ya!
